Have you

Have you ever felt like something is blown out of proportion for the sake of being overly cautious.

I've been tossing around the idea of seeking a new doctor (OB).  Getting refills has been a monumental task.. Almost to the point where the doctor and the nurse make me feel like I'm a huge inconvenience.. They are the ones making me jump thru hoops every 28 days.. They won't give me  multiple refills on the hormone pills. So this has turned into a roller coaster of one month having, the next month, not getting them, because they don't fill on time. Which makes me roller coaster every month. I need this drug to be a constant in my system.

They have made me feel like I'm too much of a liability, and ask 100's of questions, but never really ask How I'm doing.

Now they want me to see a endocrinologist, before they prescribe hormone pills again.

I want a doctor to take responsibility for the mistakes they may or may not have made, or not had 100% control over, and not run me thru the ringer.  Admit that someone in your organization screwed up. Now I'm the patient paying the price.  If my out of pocket wasn't met for the year, I would be even more upset.. but even that I met my deductible in January.. makes my blood boil too.

Basement ceiling

We bought a small sample of some paint for the ceiling.

A) Do we like the industrial look
if yes
B) Do we go light or dark on the ceiling

C) Do we go black or dark grey.

With out further adieu

To see what it looks like against a white wall

It's a steely grey color compared to the nasty wood.

Unless something else major pops up, going with the painted ceiling ( in the steel grey color )

Why redo the basement

I don't think I showed you the real reason why we had to tear apart our basement.

Just found the pictures on the camera.. ( most pictures I post are from my phone )

The river flowing thru the basement, a week before this picture was under carpet.. and not as "visible" to us.. and was covered by a table, and generally you don't feel wet carpet with shoes on.

the wall normally didn't look this gnarly.. but I started hacking at it when it was "leaking"

Nightmare..

So the lovely rivers from the wall, are why we had to tear them down.. discover the " crack" , fix the crack, and now.. do something with it.

Butterflies

Went for labs in Friday. New lady working in the lab. I asked what happened to "S" super nice lab lady who'd been there forever. New lady replied, no one like her. Hmmpff.

Okay

So I asked for a butterfly, because I have small veins. Got a snarky we don't have any!!

Should have been my indication to leave, but she assured she had a small enough needle that would work, just as good. (Wrong) she was super confident that I did not need a butterfly to draw my blood. ( hmm ) I've only known me for 40 years, you think you know me in 1.5 minutes.

She blew my vein, with vials still to go, and none of the important stuff done, so she had to go into the other hand. Ouch!!

I will be finding a new lab. I also wrote a "lovely" review for them.

Moral of the story. Something don't feel right, go with your gut. You don't need to be bruised for someone's ego.

Basement Ideas post 1

So with nothing pressing at work, and a lazy Friday afternoon attitude. I've been doing some basement idea searching.  We have no formal "plan" or "vision" so looking at all possibilities now.

Like the sliding door, not doable in our space.

Cute, but seems really crammed

One of the big issues in our basement.. what to do with the ceiling, does it look weird to just leave it open.

Now I'm loving the idea of a fireplace in the basement

I like the painted ceiling.. husband would never go for hanging lights across like that.

Now I like the finish on the floor, the pillars, the ceiling painted.
Do you think the walls are originally like that or faux finish to look like that.

I kinda like the dark ceiling.. with light colored walls.

We want to do something like the curtains here to block off our laundry area when guests are over.
Dark thick curtains, floor to ceiling.

Thoughts, love to hear them in the com box.

Offer it Up

The gaps in blog posts are not intentional..

As the story goes, things are busy..   yada, yada, yada.

I stopped by a friends house after work to drop off games for the parish festival this weekend.

I could sense something was up ... I "assumed" she was going to tell me she was pregnant.  The gap between kids.. ( she has 3 boys ) was showing signs of another on the way.

I was shocked when tears came to her eyes.  She said. I just want to tell you ( her voice got softer ) that we lost a baby this last week; she was 7 weeks along.

I gave her a big hug.

She told her 3 other boys as it happened,  but she was saddened that they were "over" it in about 30 seconds. I said, they get it, but they'll surprise you and say things along the way.. that they remember their little brother or sister.

I told her well you have 1 in heaven now, watching out for your 3 boys here.

T, named the baby Peter- Mary..

If you could say a prayer for T & her husband  for God to comfort them.

Our basement redo

So if you recall earlier this year we dealt with my grandma's basement flooding and renovation.

Guess what we started on now... drum roll please.

Our basement.

Not because we have nothing else to do. Not because we have buckets of $100 bills to work on this.
Because the person we bought the house from decided to disguise a crack in the wall, behind a finished wall.  After our very moist spring, we kept find the carpet wet in the finished part of basement. So we tore the carpet up, to keep the mold at bay. Then we noticed the river coming from the wall, which trailed to the floor drain ( formerly) under carpet.

We had a basement water proofing company out, who gave us some ridiculous quotes, but until we tore the wall down, we wouldn't know what we were actually dealing with.

Before Walls coming down, carpet around floor drain already out .

storage area, we will miss you.

Laundry room ( wall was chopped up, when water to the floor drain got out of control )

So once we had some free time, and the help of a contractor, we dug into the drywall and discovered this lovely crack in the foundation, that someone else "tried" to  hide.  Thankfully instead of having to install new drain tiles ( what the waterproofing company initially was wrong with the basement --without seeing behind the wall ) we just have to have some fancy crack repair done.
This was the lovely "crack" that was hidden behind the wall

First view of basement
basement current state after wall came down, which forced the ceiling and all walls down

sorry garbage men.. nasty drywall had to go somewhere.

So before the foundation fix, we have to clean/paint/sanitize the wall, as it has some residual of the constant leaking.  Once the foundation fix happens, then we start on redoing the basement. It's going to stay open now, and not be so compartmentalized as it was made by the previous owner.  More pictures to follow as we progress.

Our biggest fight disagreement  is what to do with the floor. Carpet is not a good solution anymore. With our history and that basement, it needs to be something that can be easily mopped up. Contractor suggested tile. Tile is $$ for the amount that has to be done. ( I can see why a contractor would suggest it though, more $$ in his pocket ). 2nd suggestion was epoxy on the floor, 3rd linoleum 4th is like a faux wood, glue down stuff.

The 2nd disagreement will be what color to paint ( ha )  now that the walls are down, and staying down. We actually have daylight coming in from 3 windows..  So it won't be so dark and dungeon-ey as before.

So our basement will stay mostly open.. with tables that can be set up for parties. Hoping we can swing.. new furniture upstairs. and our leather couches upstairs will go down. We already have a big screen TV for the basement, we have a wine fridge, and pop corn machine..

To make the most of the space, we will hang some sort of curtain system, to hide our laundry area, when not in use.

When I have the mock up ready, I will post.

What have you done in your basement ? I would love to hear what you've done to your basement.

Spiritual challenge

So, I have been getting pressuring emails to write something nice and uplifting , and spiritual to someone in my husbands family who has spent the better part of my marriage, being rude, RUDE, inappropriate,  insensitive,  and plain old vulgar language whenever we are around him.

He recently was divorced his wife is a saint for putting up with him for 10 years. He's an alcoholic, drug user, and worst sailor mouth on the planet. He's been cheating on his wife, can't hold a job, and is just not a person, I would want my kids to be around.

He's living with the person he cheated on his wife with. Who is also one of the people looking for these affirming letters for his retreat.

This girl is disallusioned to think this retreat will get him to stop all his bad habits  ( my in laws think it will happen too).

This BIL so recently as 2 weeks ago, berated and belittled my husband and I in a group text to the entire family.  Not a single person said, hey yo, inappropriate ! To Be honest he's a big guy and known to throw his weight around, so I would say most are honestly  afraid. ( yes he was the reason  we had to hire undercover  security for our wedding)-- he started a fight at my SIL'S wedding 2 months before ours, and the police were called.

So may I ask your prayers for him.

To be fair and honest,  I don't feel that I can effectively pray for him. I also replied, that I'm probably not the best person, to send a supportive letter to him for his retreat. I also suggested they get him some professional help, and he seek AA, or rehab, for the best chance for him and any further relationships.

Can I ask for prayers for a private and personal intention.

3 Sons

So while on IF Island. We went to the North Channel  and walked around the harbor before dinner.
We happened upon this yacht trying to make its way into dock.
The current was very strong, it took 2 attempts to make the landing perfect.
It is a very large yacht. Very uncharacteristic for the area.  We waited and waited to see someone get off. We were kinda the paparazzi of the island. Nothing was happening except for grumbling tummies. So we walked to the restaurant.  While eating dockside, we saw a small skiff boat launch off it. The men on the small boat were battling the current trying to fish. (Haha). Fish did a very good job of hiding  while we were on IF island.
After dinner, we walked back down the harbor, now the sun had definitely  set, and a much cooler breeze was present.
A nice gentleman  was outside, checking the ropes. We had been throwing out guesses has to how big the boat was. We'll the only way to settle it, was to ask the guy on the dock. The boat was named Three Sons ( kinda ironic). I have 3 Sons too. So we approached the guy, and said, can u settle a bet. He said I'll try. I said how long is the boat. He said 130 feet. ( he said, I can't convert to meters quick in my head ( we were in Canada ). I said no worries were from the states.  He said where abouts, we told him, and then he said by the way, who won the bet. I said --I did.
He was very nice and answered the techie boat questions# diesel engine, how big the fuel tanks were, etc. So then we said, so how come the owners aren't with the boat. He said. Oh, I'm one of the Three sons. WOW!!  We went on to talk about the business they are in, what brought them to the island. They are from Minneapolis. They had their mom traveling with them. All Three sons, help with the running of the yacht, even though they do have a crew.  He asked about the fishing around there. Told us where they were headed. Very genuine, nice guy. I could tell his mom raised him right. Even though it  was very obvious they had money, he wasn't flaunting it.
Much thinking, and missing my three sons after seeing this yacht.
